EP. 050 – Edtech Thought Leader Q&A: Naimish Gohil, CEO & Founder, and Louise Raw, Head of UK Business, Team Satchel

Our final #FinnemoreFireside of 2024 is with Naimish Gohil, CEO & Founder of Team Satchel alongside their Head of UK Business, Louise Raw.

What started as Naimish’s mission to transform homework and communication in his school with Show My Homework, Satchel has now transformed into a global brand, saving teachers time, improving schools and streamlining classroom management.  Team Satchel has developed a powerful range of school software focusing on homework, behaviour, classroom management, teaching resources and – most recently – MIS, which we discuss in more detail in our chat.

It’s an interesting fireside chat that captures Satchel’s ethos and strategic direction while highlighting their passion for making a difference in education. Amongst other things, we discuss:

  • Rooted in classroom experience: Satchel’s origins in teaching have shaped their approach, focusing on practical tools that address real needs in schools.
  • Simplicity and support: Their emphasis on creating easy-to-use tools is matched by a commitment to providing reliable service and training.
  • Problem-solving through innovation: Satchel develops solutions to address specific challenges faced by educators, with features designed to simplify daily tasks.
  • A considered move into MIS: Expanding into MIS was a response to challenges they observed, with a focus on improving usability and integration for schools.
  • User feedback at the core: Collaborating with schools and educators has helped Satchel rethink and refine processes like attendance and exams to make them more efficient.
  • Rethinking customer support: They aim to set a high standard for service, addressing the frustrations schools often face with edtech providers.
  • Focused on education, not everything else: Satchel’s approach remains centred on supporting teachers, students, and parents, rather than expanding into unrelated areas like finance or payroll.
  • The importance of trust and transparency: They recognise the need for strong partnerships with schools and believe in open, collaborative ways of working to help address challenges in education.

Enjoy, let me know your feedback in the comments!
